Opuntia adalah sebuah genus dari famili kaktus, Cactaceae .
Spesies kuliner paling terkenalnya adalah ( O. ficus-indica ). Sebagian besar kuliner menggunakan istilah "pir berduri" untuk merujuk kepada spesies tersebut.
Genus tersebut mengambil nama dari kota Yunani Kuno Opus , dimana, menurut , sebuah tumbuhan pangan tumbuh dengan mengakarkan dedaunannya. [ 1 ]
